Preserve History
Old Fly Marsh was one of the first to come under the protection of the Land Trust. The initial parcel of 67 acres was purchased in 1974 and the second parcel of 9.8 acres was purchased in 1978. Funds to procure these parcels were raised by middle and high school students from area schools who participated in walkathons. Local scout troops helped build a kiosk and signage. Today, neighbors of Old Fly help keep the preserve clean and safe for visitors to enjoy.

Site Features
Old Fly Marsh has an extensive trail system, with opportunities to take a break at either the observation deck or benches along the trails. The waters of Old Fly are home to beaver and muskrats, and is a significant resting place for migrating waterfowl and a nesting site for wood ducks. The northern trail loop passes through large swaths of ostrich ferns, and the site is known for its spring ephemerals and other unique plants.
Beaver activity can submerge the western trails during the wet spring season. CNYLT is organizing volunteer work days to improve trail access throughout the year. Please email stewardship@cnylandtrust.org if you'd like to help!
