Teacher Resources
The CNY Land Trust has been conserving land for more than 50 years. We saved our first property, Baltimore Woods, in 1972 with the help of several local schools and their students. They rallied together and raised money from friends and family members who sponsored them to walk on Earth Day. They raised enough money to pay the entire purchase price of Baltimore Woods, which has remained forever wild and open to the public ever since.

We are excited for you to join us in this tradition of community involvement, and Walk for Nature is only the first step. We are here for you and your students with educational material, information, and volunteer opportunities as we continue our mission of saving land in CNY.

Walk for Nature will be held at Marcellus Park on May 4, 2024 with live bands, games, and cool prizes. This year we will be awarding the grand prize of a pizza party for up to 100 students to the school with the most walkers.
Where to start?

Have each of your students register. They can sign up online. Their parent or legal guardian will need to read and initial the waiver. Alternately, they can download the registration form and mail it to The CNY Land Trust, 7 Fennell Street, 2nd Fl, Skaneateles, NY 13152 or email to kpearson@cnylandtrust.org with the subject line "Register to Walk". Please make sure students include their t-shirt size. T-shirts are free for all students who raise $35 or more. If your student does not raise the required amount, they are still welcome to raise what they can and join us to walk.

Students can begin signing up sponsors immediately after they register. Sponsors can sign up online, and we will automatically keep track of all the money each student raises. We suggests students also print a sponsorship form for cash and check donations. Instructions are included.

We would like to give your school a fifteen minute presentation about the work we do and let them know how they can become active in some exciting local conservation initiatives. You are not required to have a presentation in order to participate in Walk for Nature. For more information or to book a presentation, please email Paul Porter, Director of Stewardship, at pporter@cnylandtrust.org.

Here is a sneak peak at this year's t-shirt design. All walkers who raise $35 or more will receive a free t-shirt. Please have your students register online and select their size or mail in the registration form before March 24, 2024 so we have ample time to order shirts.
