Did you know The Central New York Land Trust is helping to save the Hart's Tongue Fern (Asplenium scolopendrium var. americanum) right here in CNY in cooperation with the NYS Parks Department and Sonnenberg Gardens and Mansion State Historic Park in Canandaigua, NY.?  The Hart's Tongue Fern is a threatened species that is protected by both the Federal government and NY State.  


Hart's Tongue Fern require a specialized habitat in order to survive, which we safeguard in Onondaga County at one of our preserves.  These ferns are sensitive to human and invasive species encroachment.  There are currently only five states with localized stands of these enigmatic plants.
